THE LAGOON OF RAIATEA

You cannot discover the treasures of an island without spending a moment on its lagoon. It is there that we realize the shades of blue best, that we see the underwater wonders, and that we take a step back to admire the island from another perspective.
And in Raiatea, there is plenty to do, because the island is surrounded by a very large lagoon. So of course the boat might seem like a no-brainer, and it's true, especially if you live here. But there is also another way to enjoy the lagoon: jet-skiing.

For me, the main advantage is being able to access more places more easily, especially to discover certain motus of Raiatea. With a boat, it is sometimes harder to approach ...
And then I particularly like the sensations of jet-skiing: speed sometimes, but above all the feeling of controlling your means of transport while being at one with the lagoon. We feel the slightest wave, we take advantage of all the colors, we really have a huge playground to explore ... while by boat we simply go from point A to point B. Of course that's only my felt, but you got it, I love jet skiing !

The activity

But discovering the lagoon is still easier when you are accompanied by someone who knows it. And on the jet ski side, I didn’t have to look far: Raiatea Jet has long been known on the island.

Here is the description on their website concerning the discovery of Raiatea:

“A whole day of jet around Raiatea, to discover the little-known treasures of the capital of the Leeward Islands! Depending on the weather conditions, we will take you to discover the motus of the coral reef, we may have the chance to observe rays or meet playful dolphins in the passes. You will be able to see the splendid bay of Faaroa, and the only navigable river of Polynesia.”

Well I find that rather not bad as a program! A day that combines sport and breaks, that’s exactly what I was looking for. We didn’t see the srays or the dolphins this time around, but we were amazed all the same … we’ll give you a glimpse of it!

OUR DAY

The day begins with a little debrief both on barrier gestures (and yes, COVID period requires) but especially on the excursion: what is on the program and how to use a jet-ski, the distances to be respected, the behavior to have ...
And then we start: we leave the bay gently and we start to take control of the jet. The guides are always there to check that everything is going well, that everyone is following in good conditions.

The tour is punctuated by stops to give explanations on the island, on the panoramas that we walk along and their history.
And of course, as promised, throughout the route, we take the opportunity to discover and if possible stop on the many motus that surround Raiatea.
This is what we appreciated the most because even when you live here, you don't necessarily know all the motus in Raiatea. We often go to those who are closest to home, and yet each has its own personality, a beauty of its own.

Among the activities of the day, there are also the moments of snorkeling (always magical), the picnic on the beach of Motu Nao Nao, the search for dolphins and of course the sensations of the jet-ski. The size of the lagoon sometimes makes it possible to pick up a little speed for those who like it, and in any case we appreciate the comfort of these very recent and well maintained machines with regard to Raiatea Jet.

I’m not going to tell you in detail about all the stops, already because the route can be slightly modified depending on the weather, but also to leave you with the effect of surprise … but I know that you will enjoy it!

Jérémie and Elodie have an asset to make you have a good day: they like what they do. Whether it is when welcoming you around a cup of tea or coffee, or throughout the day to talk about Raiatea or jet skiing, we feel that nothing is forced and good humor is present.
The company offers various "hikes" in the lagoon, as well as tours to navigate without sightseeing. We can therefore adjust according to our desires, but also the time available.

As you can see, we were delighted with our day discovering the motus of Raiatea. We appreciated our island and its beauty even more, and we said to ourselves that it had nothing to envy the other better known (but shhh, we must not say it too much so that it remains accessible only to true lovers of Polynesia!)

Raiatea Jet gave us a good time, and made us want to invest in a jet ski even more to keep enjoying it (but that’s another story!)
